Island Games Latest News
NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2021
Following the announcement in September that the Guernsey 2021 NatWest International Island Games would be postponed, the International Island Games Association (IIGA) has announced that Guernsey will now host the Games in the summer of 2023, followed by Orkney in 2025 and Ynys Mon in 2027.
Although the Organising Committee were well advanced in their planning, they fully support the decision from the IIGA and firmly believe that the Guernsey 2023 NatWest International Island Games will be an event like no other. The Organising Committee and all sports will use this time to work hard to put on the best event possible and give Guernsey and the other Member Islands something to look forward to.
The date of the NatWest International Island Games XIX to be hosed in Guernsey will take place from the 8th to the 14th July 2023. Please make a note in your diary.
We appreciate that this is a long way away and that the circumstances of many of you who completed an Intent to Compete Form for the 2021 Games, may have changed. There will also be some swimmers who, by 2023, will have reached the age and standard where they feel that the qualifying times are within their grasp and may wish to be considered for a place in the team.
GASA has therefore agreed that all Intent to Compete forms completed for the 2021 Games will no longer be valid. ALL swimmers are therefore required to complete a new Intent to Compete Form for the 2023 Games. The closing date for completion of the form is 30th September 2021.
The qualifying period to achieve the standard for the 2023 Island Games will be 1st January 2022 to 31st December 2022, following which team selection will be made.
It is important that you take time to read GASA’s Selection Criteria so that you are fully aware of the procedures for team selection.
